Saturn Retrograde begins today

Saturn goes retrograde this afternoon, which is ironic because it's Satur(n)day. When a planet goes retrograde it usually indicates that we, as a collective of individuals, will each be doing reflection and introspection about the themes of the planet in retrograde. Saturnian themes include responsibility, time, aging, wisdom, discipline, karma, limitations, long term worldly ambitions, tradition, elders, figures of authority, and accountability. This can be some heavy stuff. Saturn is not in the business of letting anyone run from their problems or avoid the consequences of their actions. Saturn reminds me of granddaddy energy, tough boss energy, a coach that will make you run laps and do push ups for being late energy.

Saturn’s retrograde ends on  October 23rd plus the shadow period, so we will be experiencing this energy for the next 6 months or so. SO, for the remainder of this year we’ll be having a lot of internal evaluation and dialogue with our inner authoritative figure. We want to make sure that we’re not allowing this retrograde to make us too hard on ourselves. Especially since this Saturn retrograde takes place in Aquarius, some people might be feeling the need to self isolate and withdraw from their social life. Aquarius is the expression of humanitarianism, being community oriented, rebellion, radical thought, innovation, revolutionary change, scientific/technological advances, and freedom via detachment. Internally, we might be feeling called to make radical change in our life. The end of Mercury retrograde in Taurus allowed us to make up our minds about what we want. Saturn retrograde in Aquarius will be about the actual process we have to go through in order for our physical reality and actions to align with what our minds have decided on.

Saturn retrograde is going to feel like a lot of deprogramming, deconditioning, and unlearning. We have to remember that these processes take tiiiimeee. Saturn is all about teaching us to practice patience and intentionality with our time. Over these next few months, we will be realizing where we need to practice more discipline and accountability in our lives. We might be considering how we can be more radical and innovative with our own goals. We won’t be content with settling for the old way of doing things. We will be questioning authority more and looking inward for wisdom more than blindly following the knowledge of someone else. You might be feeling called to great better boundaries between you and some of your friends or putting more limitations on your social media usage. We might be seeing a lot of people feeling called to disengage from social media completely. We are trying to eliminate distractions so we can more easily access our own inner compass.

We must make sure that we don’t allow ourselves to become overwhelmed by all the work we feel like we need to do and the amount of time we perceive ourselves to have. You cannot expect to change decades of conditioning in one day. Your conscious understanding takes repetition and practice to reach a more subconscious level.

Don’t be alarmed if you feel your life do a complete 180 as you change your 5 or 10 year plan completely. We might see some people switch career fields to do things that they feel or more for the collective good than personal gain. People could feel compelled to think more about their effect on society and being a more active and responsible community member. It could be our new radical understanding that could motivate us to be the change we want to see and apply ourselves more than we have been before because now we see the impact we can have. The goal is to help bring more structure to our rebellion so that we have a cause and we’re not just expending unnecessary energy. People who have the energy and don’t feel called to isolate, may be doing some strategizing within their inner circle and coming together with their community to build something that is sustainable and beneficial to everyone.

We will be thinking back on some of the decisions we made in the past 6 months as we are met with the consequences of our own actions. So, this can go either way. Whatever you have been putting out into the universe, whatever actions you’ve been taking will come back to you with results or a reaction. If you are unhappy with some of the current results unfolding be sure to take responsibility for your part in your current reality.

This is a time to ask yourself some of these questions. What are the main influencers in your life? Who or what has the most authority over you? How do you spend your time? Have you been putting enough time into the goals you set for yourself? Can you handle the amount of responsibility you’ve taken or are you overwhelmed? Are you downplaying your own strength? Do you think you could put more work and effort in? Have you been sticking to the plan you created for yourself? Do you need to revise your plan to better fit your pace and capacity? What is your legacy? What does legacy mean to you? What do you want to be known for? Are the goals you’ve set too big or too small? What is your relationship with doubt? Where does your self-doubt and deprecation come from? Are there any naysayers in your life? (Remove them). I could go on and on with reflection questions for this saturn retrograde. I would suggest choosing some of these as journal prompts just to check in with yourself during the retrograde.

I wish you all the best through this time of reflection. Happy Saturday :)
