Cancer Season Forecast

On June 21, we experienced the Summer Solstice aka the first day of summer and Cancer Season. In preparation to write up this report for Cancer Season, I jotted down some keywords that I associate with Cancer energy.

The words I brainstormed are as follows: intuition, emotions, memories, mother, maternal, caretaker, moods, moody, cardinal water, home, the moon, self-care, protection, sensitivity, comfort, crying, dreams, safe space, emotional proactivity instead of emotional reactivity, coping strategies.

When the Sun is in Cancer it brings up a lot of emotions for the collective. Cancer is the cardinal water sign. In astrology, cardinal signs are the signs that indicate the start of one of the four seasons. Energetically speaking, cardinal signs are characterized by taking initiative, creating change, and getting the ball rolling. Water is the element related to emotions, intuition, memory, and fluidity. Cardinal water is change inspired by emotions, intuitive action, and history. Cancer season can bring up memories that we only recognize through feeling or dreams. Most emotions are tied to memory. Cancer season is an opportunity to make peace with our memories so that they do not control our present. We must take the initiative now as the caretaker of our own life to create new experiences for ourselves that can turn into memories that inspire evolved emotions.

The Moon has rulership over the Sun this season as the ruling entity of Cancer. Emotions could be elevated, exasperated, exaggerated, and ever-changing. The moon as the fastest moving astrological body now being in charge means that we will be moving through our feelings at a fast pace. We will be extra sensitive to the moon’s positions this season. The heat of summer usually does bring more emotional outbursts. It is often reported that crime goes up during the summer season. More people are outside and agitation arises due to the temperature, as a result, conflict becomes more likely because naturally there is just more opportunity for it.

This month our emotions, need for security, family/internal family system, memories, comfort, idea of home, and empathy are common themes. This is what we will be bringing our attention to this month. A new moon in the moon’s sign of rulership only intensifies the purifying, fresh start energy of the new moon. We might recognize the connection or disconnection between our feelings and our faith. I feel like this would be a good day to do some type of reset for your body. This could be a massage, yoga poses for emotional release, a spiritual bath, a deep deeep crying session, anything that makes your whole body just feel renewed and refreshing. A deep clean of your home would be amazing too the days leading up to the new moon, not necessarily on or after it. As we approach the new moon, we want to make the effort to clear out anything that feels like it blocks us from our intuition our feeling out of touch with our body.

To bring our feelings and our faith back into alignment will be the journey for this moon cycle, as presented by the square from Jupiter to the Cancer new moon on June 28th. Feelings as in the sensations in our body, not the thoughts we perceive as feelings. Do you really feel what you believe? When you think of the safety and security you want and know you rightfully deserve, how does it feel in your body? Are you able to feel secure in yourself and your faith that everything will be alright? Do you really feel the trust you have in yourself and your circumstances as strong and unwavering? Or do you feel feelings of doubt and unsafety creep in? These are feelings that we can perceive in our body. If you don’t feel like you have the ability of truly feeling your feelings in your body, I promise that you do and it is no shame if you feel as if you do not. A lot of us have experienced conditioning or trauma that has caused us to feel disconnected or detached from our bodies. It takes a practice of being grounded enough to sense ourselves. Part of the conditioning from white supremacy and patriarchy is desensitization to self and others. It is a journey to come back to the body. I think a lot of us have been inspired to take this journey in the past decade and more recent years, I think this month of the Sun in Cancer will further us along collectively.

This month taking care of ourselves is important. One of the intentions we all could set for this new moon is to be a better caretaker to ourselves. It can be so easy to find ourselves in patterns of self neglect, betrayal, sabotage, and deprecation. Yet, it takes work, extra effort to maintain our regimens for self care. I know so many people who take better care of others or even their materials than they do themselves. I’m sure all of us can relate to that in some way. Let Cancer season be the time we take to treat ourselves this summer (for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere). Leo season is coming and that’s for shining and showing out. In order to be able to stunt then, we have to show up for ourselves now. Don’t let yourself go outside ashy (metaphorically speaking) looking like nobody cares about you. Take the time to lather and lotion yourself with TLC. You deserve to feel cared about. That feeling starts with you. How can you make yourself and your body feel cared about so that you feel safe enough in your body to have more awareness of it?

Jupiter’s square to the new moon on June 28th, spices up Cancer season with a push from self ignited belief to create something with these big feelings of ours. We must be mindful that we don’t allow Jupiter’s square to inflate our feelings too much and we do big damage over short lived feelings. Jupiter has the power to teach us by widening our scope with new experiences, wise mentors, travel, and other learning opportunities. Jupiter also has the power to lead us to be over indulgent, careless, and even naive. Jupiter’s placement in Aries could add more of the careless and naive aspect. Aries being the first sign of the zodiac and possessing abrupt initiator energy can sometimes overlook details in the midst of action. Yet, beginner’s luck is the current vibe with Jupiter in Aries so don’t shy away from following your faith, which often shows up as your first mind aka your intuition. As we become more in tune with the feelings in our body and we can identify them, it also becomes easier to identify where our intuition shows up in our body. The easier it is to access and hear our intuition the easier it is to follow it. The easier it is to follow our intuition the more it feels like we are truly aligned with our faith and the magic/divinity within us we have always wanted to will ourselves to believe.

In regards to the movements of other planets this season, Mercury and Venus in Gemini can create exciting or anxiety inducing thoughts in regards to love and socializing. We could be thinking a lot about our words and how we think they are making others feel (which is not always reality) and thinking about the words spoken to us and how they make us feel. This comes back to feeling our feelings in our body. Excitement and anxiety can feel similar in the body, truth be told they are something like one in the same. Excitement is the hopeful perspective about what is to come, while anxiety is the concerned and skeptical perspective about what is to come. They are both in their own way projections onto the future or even present reality, which usually is actually pretty neutral. When we allow ourselves to be present in the moment we can experience some of this neutrality within ourselves which is a gateway to peace and oneness with our intuition.

The Sun in Cancer while Mercury and Venus are in Gemini is like intuition and logic working side by side. On July 5th, Mercury also enters Cancer so this is when we experience collective language and collective focus being back on the same page. We will have conversations that are more emotional as we finally open up to verbalize what we have been personally feeling. The first half of Cancer season can feel like we are a bit more in our shells, yes we are present and socializing but there are certain things we are not quite ready to share. Thoughts that we allow to remain in our minds until the time feels right, thoughts that open up more feelings, thoughts that we have to open ourselves up to acknowledging before we can utter them to anyone else.

It is around July 5th that we can finally find the words that actually capture the feeling or that we accept that words may not do them justice but we still have the right to communicate our needs and feelings in whatever ways we can. Mercury in Cancer opens up the floor for nonverbal forms of communication. Humans can communicate through visible feelings. A hug. A cry. A scowl. A kiss. A stare. An avoided gaze. This month we can focus on speaking more body language, as we practice more intuitive communication. We can allow our bodies to lead until we can gather the words. As we listen to our bodies the right words will appear. Words are necessary but only when they’re necessary. As Mercury moves from Gemini to Cancer we use less filler words and more feeling words. When we take the time to listen to our bodies often times that is when we find the right words.

It is also possible that emotional overwhelm can make some of us nonverbal. If this is an experience you have, consider finding ways that you can communicate effectively that don’t drain or overwhelm you the way verbal communication does. ASL is always a good option. A personal system developed between you and trusted loved ones can also ensure that they can understand you when you don’t have the capacity to advocate for yourself. One of the hugest themes this month is how we ensure our security, safety, and comfort. This looks like accommodating our needs emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. This looks like creating healthy coping mechanisms for ourselves that we can use in times of emotional crises. This looks like creating a lifestyle for ourselves that help to minimize and prevent triggers of said emotional crises. The Jupiter square new moon really inspires us to learn more about our emotional processing and honor our process by making space for it in our lives.

Mars enters Taurus the same day Mercury enters Cancer. Mars is considered to be in detriment (feels uncomfortable) in Taurus because it is opposite it’s domicile in Scorpio. Mars in Taurs gives more emphasis to our 5 sense, our primal pleasures, our desires, and our motivation for material things. Mars in Taurus will emphasize sensuality and feelings of possessiveness. When we feel attached to things outside of ourselves it is because we feel as though something inside of us is missing and needs to be replaced. This month don’t lose yourself on a fast track to honoring false senses of security and wholeness created by the illusion of ownership. There can be a deeply superficial hunger within us this month that can seem quite insatiable. The goal here is to convince yourself of your satisfaction. It is not that you are unsatisfied, it is just that you may not be present enough to give satisfaction a chance. For people who actually are stagnated due to feelings of content, consider the possibility of better. Do not allow yourself to become frustrated by the time it takes to get there but allow yourself to enjoy the passion and excitement that can come with the possibility.

The goal this month is to become grounded enough in our body and our present reality that we allow ourselves to safely experience a healthy range of emotions without feeling carried away by them. We can honor our emotions without allowing them to overtake us. We can allow our flesh to be an intentional home to us, more than a vehicle that carries us around and protects our organs. We can be the inner child who feels, needs, and depends while also being the inner mother who nurtures, provides, and supports. We are both. We are responsible for acknowledging, feeling, and regulating our own emotions. How can we do this if we are not present enough to recognize the emotions we are experiencing? Presence is most important. Hold space for what’s actually happening in the moment and for the emotional memory stored in the body that is being triggered by the moment. Awareness within our body, our most personal home is the key to making peace between the two.

The Full Moon in Capricorn which will form a conjunction to Pluto comes through to test the emotional stability we intend to cultivate from the inception of this moon cycle. We are faced with the reality of the foundational changes that we have to make. The Capricorn Full Moon conjunct Pluto will feel like realizing that instead of remodeling we actually need to be demolishing and just building something new. It’s not to say the emotional labor we do during the moon’s waxing period will be in vain. It will just be that the more we uncover within ourselves the more we realize that there is even more to uncover. The Full Moon will create deeper exposure to self. The New Moon will be a gentle invitation that eases us into the the labyrinth, while the Full Moon is when the light comes on to reveal to us that the comfort we have been dwelling in has been the unsafest space for us all along. It will reveal to us that the soul level since of security we truly seek only comes once we remove the illusion that superficial physical comfort brings. Comfort can create resistance to change versus security and stability which ensure the ability to handle change and possibly even adjust to it. The body as our home means that we can feel secure in any situation because safety is truly wherever we are. When you truly feel safe in your body, inside your being, inside the world you create for yourself, you truly become unshakable. The body as a home, with a solid foundation. We learn the true extent of that this season.

Feelings. Sensations. Intuition. Safety. Memories. Home. Meditate on these ideas.
