The Moon

The moon in astrology represents the emotional self and the ways and places in which we seek emotional comfort and security. The moon represents our sense of home, as a physical place and state of peace and safety. It shows how we connect with other people emotionally. The moon indicates where we are allowed to be most vulnerable and crave privacy to be with our feelings. The moon represents our needs, both emotional and physical, and where and how we meet and fulfill these needs. This placement helps us to understand our emotional attachment styles. The moon also shows us how we react to emotionally triggering things and what area of our life we are most emotionally invested in.

The moon is representative of the mother and maternal energy in general. This is not limited to our biological mother but extends to maternal influences in our lives and in what ways they show up for us. The moon represents the expression of our maternal nature, which resides in all of us, in how we nurture ourselves and others.

The moon is a luminary with varying phases, unlike other astrological bodies that show up the same way, we are all witnesses to the moon’s visible changes. As people, we are not fixed beings and also go through different phases and cycles in our life. So, the moon in our chart represents how we can show up in these different stages and how our needs can change at different times. At different times we need more or less support and different forms of support and care. Every mother at one point is a child, even the mother needs to be taken care of. The moon depicts that we all can change the roles we play within our community and relationships based on our needs at the time. The moon is no less worthy or beautiful when it is new than when it is full. We can say the same for us as people.

The moon represents our intuition. Intuition is the ability to listen to messages from the universe via signs in our external reality and our internal compass, which includes our thoughts, emotions, and physical body. We always have access to our intuition, it just takes awareness and practice to identify it and be able to listen to what it tells us. The house placement in which the moon resides can show us where we have the best potential to exercise our intuition. The house in which the moon sits is where we can be most in touch with ourselves, our needs, our emotions, and our intuition.
