Historically, Jupiter in Cancer has shown patterns of protecting home, as in a nation. Patriotism is usually on the rise or all the rave during this transit. It is horrific events that usually make people more empathetic and protective whether they choose to protect themselves, their property, or other people is the toss up. Cancer is the crab, with a tough shell and mean pinchers. We see the way that cruel state sanctioned violence is the shell and pincher that “protects” this nation. In response to a time where the protection of borders is the main idea for the government and institutions, it is up to us to use Jupiter in Cancer as a means to care for each other. During 2013-2014, when the USA and the world were in an uproar about the killing of black people, especially black men, by the police and white vigilantes, it actually inspired a sense of connection and community through activism. We saw families having more conversations about race and police brutality. We saw people coming together at protests to care for one another.
We see these parallels now. We are experiencing greater feelings of empathy and emotional impact as ICE cracks down on immigrants, Israel terrorizes Palestine, legislation cracks down on trans people, and financial burdens become harder for everyone to bare under capitalism. It’s important to remember that Jupiter in Cancer is about blessing what is nurtured and cared about. Some people in this world nurture and care deeply about bigotry, hatred, and oppressing others. Apathy is high. Protection doesn’t have to be vicious although that is what this nation has modeled over and over and over again. I think about what took place in ‘89 as the people of Berlin, Germany came together to unite, protest, and create peace between the east and the west. As a result, the wall of division and separation fell. Jupiter in Cancer has shown us the legnths that people and nations will go for the sake of care and protection. Jupiter in Cancer has shown us that apathy and cruelty exist but can be met with fierce empathy that creates change.
With Neptune and Saturn in Aries making a square to Jupiter (especially at the beginning of Jupiter’s transition into Cancer), there is the elements of authority (Saturn) using abrupt brute force to restrict and build new structures of war.
